A Boy Named Beckoning: The True Story of Dr. Carlos Montezuma, Native American Hero
I thought this story was very interesting. It communicated Dr. Montezuma's story in a clear, creative way that I think would be engaging to children. I especially liked the way real photographs of the characters were included in the margins of the pages. This book would be great to use when teaching about Native American history or about how to write biographies.
We're excited about all the new informational books for kids that will be published in 2011 and we look foward to highlighting some of the best here. Children's librarians at the Allen County Public Library sometimes receive Advance Reading Copies and other free books from a variety of publishers. After reading, some of these books find their way onto this blog before being added to the permanent Library collection or given as gifts to the participants in our book programs.
