Margaret K. McElderry Books
103 pages
In September 1862, two great armies faced each other across Antietam Creek. The outnumbered Confederate forces were led by General Robert E. Lee. The Union army was led by General George B. Whenever I read about Civil War battles, I'm just amazed at the brutal conditions the soldiers had to endure. This book definitely does not glorify this battle, it describes it in all its horrific detail; the photos and first-person accounts bring realism to the descriptions. At times the writing seemed a bit dry to me, but anyone interested in the Civil War would definitely appreciate this title.
