We're excited about all the new informational books for kids that will be published in 2011 and we look foward to highlighting some of the best here. Absolutely wonderful! This book made me cry and care and love reading.
My only critcism is that I worry kid's will view some of the stories as "sob stories." I say this because one teen did in fact say just that. On the other hand, I don't think of these as sob stories at all, but instead as stories that must be told and need to be heard.

I don't think these are sob stories at all. It was very eye-opening to read about how the lives of these children have been affected in so many ways.
I love that the book is written from the perspective of the children, but I wish the author had given more of an explanation about how she converted the interview material into the book in its final form.
I think it's vital that Americans young and old see our involvement in this war from this alternate viewpoint. I could feel the fear, anger and resentment palpably in some of these stories. This is not the type of perspective that regularly makes it back to Americans. This is a very important book.
