We're excited about all the new informational books for kids that will be published in 2011 and we look foward to highlighting some of the best here. This was a quick read, I liked the style of the illustrations and the way they illustrated the text; many of them are quite poignant. I found it to be an inspiring story of a strong-willed and courageous person, and a good demonstration of how one person can make a difference in the lives of many.
The illustrations are wonderful. The timeline and author's notes in the back are great. While I thought it was a well-written book, it just didn't make me take notice as I would have liked. I think more of Ms. Wells' quotes throughout the text instead of as sidebars would have made added a lot.
Good informational book, but not my favorite overall.
